A poster presentation is a format of scientific presentation that allows conference participants to present their research in a clear and easy-to-understand manner.
This format is especially useful at large conferences where many presentations are scheduled, and time for oral presentations is limited. For such a presentation, the researcher prepares a poster that presents the essential elements of their research, including the objective, methods, results, and conclusions. During a designated time, conference participants can approach the posters, ask questions, and discuss the work with the author. This format allows for a broader dissemination of research findings and facilitates professional networking. Poster sessions also create opportunities for live communication and a deeper immersion into the topic than is possible with traditional oral presentations. It is important to note that poster presentations at the Congress can be presented not only in person but also online.
Poster structure
A poster presentation should clearly and logically represent the main information of the research. Typically, the text on the poster includes the following elements:
- Title. Use a large font so that the title is visible from a distance.
- Authors and their affiliations.
- Introduction. Briefly outline the objectives of the study, key hypotheses, and the context of the work. Avoid overloading the text with details; use bullet points for better readability.
- Methods. The description of the methods should be concise and clear, and can be supported by diagrams and tables.
- Results. This is the key section of the poster. Use graphs, charts, and tables to present the data. The results should be immediately visible; try to avoid lengthy texts. Use visual elements (arrows, icons, color highlights) to draw attention to important aspects of the work.
- Conclusions. Summarize the study and highlight the key points. The main conclusion should be clear and concise.
Poster preparation
The most popular programs for preparing a poster are Microsoft PowerPoint (with slide size set to A0), CorelDRAW, and Adobe Photoshop. For collaborative work, services like Figma and Canva can be used.
The poster should be prepared in A0 format (841×1189 mm) with a vertical orientation. Preferred file formats for printing are PDF, TIF, or EPS with a high resolution (150-300 dpi). It is recommended to convert fonts to outlines, use the CMYK color scheme, and provide the print layout in vector format.
For the poster text, it is recommended to use Arial font. Ensure that the font is easy to read from a distance. The font size for the main text should ideally be 28-32 points, and the font size for the title should be 64–70 points.
The image resolution should be high (300 dpi), with preferred image formats being .gif, .tif, and .jpg. Captions for graphs and images should be placed next to them.
It is recommended to set margins of 2–3 cm around the edges of the poster.
Poster presentation at the conference in an in-person format
Poster presenters are offered a free poster printing service. To use this service, please email your poster in PDF format to the Congress Organizing Committee at centersot@eacling.ru with “Poster” in the subject line by November 30. During the Congress, the Organizing Committee will provide the author with the printed poster and pins for mounting. The author places the poster in the poster zone.
Authors must be present at their posters during the scheduled session time to answer questions from conference participants. Be prepared for a brief oral presentation (2-3 minutes) for interested colleagues. Prepare answers to potential questions in advance and be ready to explain even complex aspects in a simple and accessible way.
Poster presentation at the conference in an online format
The poster session in an online format will be organized on a video conferencing platform. Participants are divided into 11 sections according to the language of the presentation and, if possible, thematically. The distribution of presentations is available via the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NZJCwJmc9_DJ8ymv70yUmtXa8gbGkZhXy1_WJb5EKXw/edit?tab=t.0
Each section will be moderated by a moderator who will announce the poster presentations, monitor the timing of the speeches, and manage questions from the audience. Attendees, as in an in-person poster session, can join any online sections and ask questions to the presenters either verbally or in writing.
Participants will present their posters independently using the screen-sharing feature. Each presentation should last no more than 10-12 minutes. Before the start of the poster session, ensure that you have a stable internet connection and that your microphone and camera are working properly.
After all the presentations are completed, participants will answer questions from the audience. Questions can be asked either verbally or via chat.
To allow participants and attendees to review the posters in advance, please send them to the Secretariat at: eacl@iling-ran.ru. The submitted posters are posted at the following link: https://files.eacling.org/index.php/s/qCBQdp5WsrxMQfn
